Claire Barhite
Violin teacher
A native of Grand Forks, Claire Barhite began her musical journey early, singing and playing the piano. She then started violin at Viking Elementary at the age of 9 and fell in love with the instrument. Her violin studies took her to St. Olaf College where she studied music education while playing in the St. Olaf Orchestra, a handbell choir, and in several chamber groups.
Mrs. Barhite has performed in Japan with UND’s Red River Trio and in Norway, Argentina, Uruguay, and across the U.S. with the St. Olaf Orchestra. Some of her most memorable orchestral experiences are playing for the King of Norway in Oslo and playing with renowned violinist Sarah Chang at Carnegie Hall with the St. Olaf Orchestra. Some of her favorite musical moments involve chamber music and playing with friends and for others for fun. She feels that the most important part of being a musician is to share your gift with others.
Mrs. Barhite teaches violin using a combination of the traditional method and the Suzuki method. In addition to teaching private violin lessons, Mrs. Barhite teaches orchestra at Schroeder Middle School and Viking and Kelly Elementary and coaches for the Northern Valley Youth Orchestras. In her free time she enjoys organizing, playing card games, playing violin duets with her sister, baking, going for walks with her husband, and spending time with family and friends.
